The 'Pipeline' Story

The essence of a true business owner is they work ON the business instead of in the business, as does an employee or self-employed person.

Here's a story that illustrates this distinction.

There was a small Pacific Island, where the natives were dependent upon a well in the centre of their village. Suddenly it ran dry. The village leaders called an emergency meeting and after a lengthy debate agreed to pay 25 cents per gallon of water delivered to the village, to each of the two people
who tendered their services.

The First Person promised to deliver water immediately. For 12-14 hours per day, he hauled two buckets of water back and forth from a nearby lake to the well.

The Second Person, a woman, also promised to deliver water but explained that it would take six months. She hired a contractor to construct a pump and a pipeline from the lake to the well and after six months the pump was turned on, along with a meter to count the gallons.

Now she could rest, relax and collect passive/residual income for the rest of her life!
